I watched part of this 1955 opening of the Disneyland Park in California. It was interesting t see how things have changed over the years. Prior to watching this, I saw an old Mickey Mouse cartoon.
Although much has changed, a lot remains the same. This extends beyond Disney and beyond the purpose of this posting.
I have several cherished memories of Disneyland. Or rather of my family and Disney, but mostly of my Dad. I would like to locate this picture I took of Nona and my Dad at Disneyland. I remember it was a great profile of mother and son although you really couldn’t tell it was taken in California.
I like Disney World better now, although much of what you find there refers back to fun times in the past. It will be really great to be with my niece this September in Orlando, Florida.

It was also interesting to watch the actual dedication ceremony. Much was made of fact that they were Americans and were from a blessed land and that Disneyland represented much that was good about America. After listening to this I was a little surprised by overt patriotism...then I remembered that this was 1955 during the cold war. Patriotism like that fell out of favor later on and seems to only flare up when the U.S. is fighting a war.
I was also interested to see that there were no major woman participants in the ceremony. There were a few dancers participating in the program who were women and the executive's wives were seated on the stand but for the most part everyone with a speaking part, including the press, was a male.
As far as the Disneyland vs. Disneyworld argument is concerned...I don't have an opinion yet. I had more fun at Disneyland the time I went there than I had at Disneyworld last November. There were contributing circumstances though that dragged that last trip down a bit. I'll have a better idea of which I like better this November after I have been to both parks in a span of 3 months.
