Crosses, what purpose do they serve?

cross.gifI never really understood the notion of the cross. Yeah, I know it represents Christianity, but it seems pretty silly. Well, I guess it is not as silly as the Jesus fish and if the legend of it’s origin is true, I guess it makes sense to “hide” it’s meaning. I’d cross myself too if it would indicate to someone else I was a Christian and they did not understand English.

Anyway, the crosses like this image just seems morbid. I wouldn’t want it in my house nor would I want to look at it every Sunday. I think it is pretty depressing, but I guess that is the point… to get people to feel bad and pay the lousy preacher to blow sunshine up…

Is it not more impressive and inspiring that He lives? Was not the Garden of Gethsemane more excruciating? Death on the cross was the completion of what began in the garden.

I wish my opinions were more tactful like President Hinckley’s. There is a reason he has been called to be a prophet and I most likely will not. Did not Moses say “would God everyone would be a prophet”?
