Knocking on doors

I used to knock on doors. I did it for scout fund raisers - which was almost never fun to do and in Louisiana. I'm not sure why I one day decided to enjoy people's negative reactions. Maybe it has something to do with why I like the rain when everyone else around me does not.

Anyway, I remember really getting pumped when a door was slammed in my face or someone came out yelling and swearing at me. I guess it was pride in what I was doing? I don't like sales people coming to my door, but I think I'd let others in... I don't know. I've never had the chance yet.

Anyway, I remember going from slammed door to the next one. There was one door... I thought I made posts about all this. I didn't find anything in my brief search.

The Church just put out a new logo. The name tags went through a revision at least once. The first one had the missionaries name in very small print with a line under it. The part of the logo that indicated who's Church it is stood out -- which I believe was the intention.

Anyway, this one door opened and the guy started yelling and cursing... I just smiled and watched him look down at my name tag. He went pail, calmed down, and stepped outside and walked with us a ways.

That's right! I thought. Now you know who I represent.

A few months later, in a different area, we came across another interesting door. The barking dog should have been an omen that the guy didn't want us to knock on the door, but being the punk I am I wanted to anyway. Slowly the dog gave up ground and I was able to knock on the door.

This guy was fuming. I think I heard every word in the book. I couldn't help it. I just started laughing. The guy thought it was strange too and he shut up.

When I regained composer I told the man to repent and call us when he was in a better mood to talk.

One last story which has nothing to do with name tags and such, but there was one place that I fell through the deck after I knocked on the door. I guess that will teach me for bugging people.
