Almost everyone I hear complain about the hidden menu's in IE 7 and MS Office. I honestly did not notice they were gone until someone cried about it for the first time.
I thought it was strange because I recalled hitting Alt-F and I got the File menu in IE7. So, I had to go look at what was going on.
I think it was smart to hide the menus. It took up space anyway. With Office? It sounds like these ribbon things would be pretty intuitive to use. And for all the old school (remember the argument between users that like to type everything in the console to those who just want to click?) users, press the Alt key when you need to see your menus!
