Yesterday

Dinner was great. It went very smoothly. I'm sure I screwed up on some formality... I have adopted the 3/5 rule. Meaning, I'll call her in 4 days. There was no time for the Beignets, but maybe another time.

I went on a long walk to get a feel for the surrounding area of my new place of residence. Sadly, I still think my home is in Utah.

I've been gobbling doughnuts and crap the last couple days. Is there any wonder I'm packing on poundage? Hopefully my niece's will want t go on many walks this weekend or I will be forced to go by myself.

Beignets, Hush Puppies, and Dirty Rice

I can not wait for tomorrow. I'm fix-en to make some Southern food, along with my lovely assistant. I have never deep fried anything but it will be fun to try.

I took some friends to breakfast at Table Talk this morning. It was some good food. I probably should have passed on all that pizza at work, but it tastes so good... and the gooey cheese...

I was going to go get a hair cut and go out for china food at Panda Express... Yum, orange chicken. I reckon I don't need to eat for a while and should probably go on a long walk.... Too bad I didn't bring my swimming trunks.

Knocking on doors

I used to knock on doors. I did it for scout fund raisers - which was almost never fun to do and in Louisiana. I'm not sure why I one day decided to enjoy people's negative reactions. Maybe it has something to do with why I like the rain when everyone else around me does not.

Anyway, I remember really getting pumped when a door was slammed in my face or someone came out yelling and swearing at me. I guess it was pride in what I was doing? I don't like sales people coming to my door, but I think I'd let others in... I don't know. I've never had the chance yet.

Anyway, I remember going from slammed door to the next one. There was one door... I thought I made posts about all this. I didn't find anything in my brief search.

The Church just put out a new logo. The name tags went through a revision at least once. The first one had the missionaries name in very small print with a line under it. The part of the logo that indicated who's Church it is stood out -- which I believe was the intention.

Anyway, this one door opened and the guy started yelling and cursing... I just smiled and watched him look down at my name tag. He went pail, calmed down, and stepped outside and walked with us a ways.

That's right! I thought. Now you know who I represent.

A few months later, in a different area, we came across another interesting door. The barking dog should have been an omen that the guy didn't want us to knock on the door, but being the punk I am I wanted to anyway. Slowly the dog gave up ground and I was able to knock on the door.

This guy was fuming. I think I heard every word in the book. I couldn't help it. I just started laughing. The guy thought it was strange too and he shut up.

When I regained composer I told the man to repent and call us when he was in a better mood to talk.

One last story which has nothing to do with name tags and such, but there was one place that I fell through the deck after I knocked on the door. I guess that will teach me for bugging people.

Hug and Kiss

I had an "old flame" come by the Haus the other day. We were pretty much alone for the most part. I offered her a Hershey Kiss and one of those hug candies.

"Now you can't say you didn't get a hug and a kiss." I told her.

I'm not the only one

I have said it before, Google needs a Calendar application. Aaron thinks so too.

Exploiting the Haus (House)

I had debated on what to publish tonight. I had some people over to the Haus. It was good to have them over. I kind of wish they wouldn't leave... but I guess I will leave here one day as well.

Two more events are slated for the Haus this week. One of which was my doing. I'm glad to see the Haus being used for events as it should be.

It is hard to believe that I once lived in Utah. Seems like a life time ago. I do miss the mountains.

I owned a Skateboard

I was reminded that I owned a skateboard at one time as a teenager or younger. I don't think I had it very long or used it very much. Does that make me a skater?

My cousin's were more skater than I ever was. Funny use of the "word", I am sure.

I've never posted anything about my cousins. Maybe one day I will. There is si much I would like record. Especially for personal purposes.

Too much money

I just got this off a news post.

Bill Gates - $51bn
Warren Buffett - $40bn
Paul Allen - $22.5bn

Larry Ellison - $17bn

Cassini Dell

I just got me a used laptop. I am this much closer to installing the speech recognition software I bought last year. I tried to install it this morning but the sound card was not installed and I did not bring the drivers... oh well, I'll get it this weekend hopefully.

I was not happy with Windows XP Home Edition because there are things I could not install like IIS. One of my CDs did have the Cassini Sample Web Server on it, so I'm hoping it will let me do web services stuff.

I want to buy a grill but I need to curb or cap spending ASAP! Money goes faster than it comes in! If I don't stop buying now, when will I stop?

Book wish list

I want to read some of these Matthew B. Brown books. If I do not buy them for myself, I would like them for Christmas. It's not even Oct. I doubt I will wait...Bah Humbug!

Goonda lunch! Yum! Yum!

Ok "Goonda" is what Wicket the Ewok says when given some food. Silly, I know.

Anyway, to alleviate space in the fridge at home, I packed in 20lbs of food: Stouffers, Lunchables, drinks...

This stuff I made this afternoon is very good.

Hosting FHE

There were about 35 people over at our place last night. I’m kind of glad more didn’t show as I was expecting because the AC died. I was still disappointed certain people didn’t come. Oh well, it was fun.

I had to pack in a bunch of extra goodies and drinks. I’m glad I did because we would have ran out of stuff fairly quick.

I get chewed out the second I got to work. I did some research and proved it wasn’t my fault the stupid application dies on start up. Oh well, it’s easier to blame the little guy?

Potowmacks

Not going to Annapolis this year? Well, not for the work Christmas party. WE are going here instead. Well, at least I will not have to find a ride.

Sounds like the annual prize drawing will be held around Thanksgiving. I will not be able to make it. I'm sure it was planned that I would miss out. Oh well, I'll be going to the Caribbeans next year anyway.

I will be going to Palmyra this year. Sweet. Canada too.

Cooking for the guys

Honestly, I like to cook. Being in a house allows me to cook at times and not feel I have eat the stuff for days on end. Sharing is good. One who can not or will not share is not ready for the Law of Consecration.

I realize that is a fine line. I can not cook all the time... Well, if it is my food that keeps being eaten than that certainly isn't fair, but I would be willing to cook (at times) food I didn't buy... if I could eat of it too.

It is also a nice gesture... I like doing dinner parties too. I've only been invited to one but it was still nice.

Another Great Talk

I was also reminded of this talk. I have actually been thinking about rereading it again. I think it is better to listen to it, but the text will have to do.

Jesus Christ, Our Redeemer
Elder Richard G. Scott

"...Part of that testing here is to have so many seemingly interesting things to do that we can forget the main purposes for being here..."

"... In quiet moments when you think about it, you recognize what is critically important in life and what isn’t. Be wise and don’t let good things crowd out those that are essential..."

Casting out Devils

During many of my conversations I was reminded about this post. I totally think the worlds problems would be better solved if everyone was converted to the Gospel. Money would be better spent on missionary work than on security or defense.

New house means changes?

I've noticed that being in this new place has rendered some changes. Like all this wireless stuff. It is cool on one hand, but quite frustrating on the other. I just want to get n the network ASAP.... I found last night where I can force my toy to connect. I'm not sure if there is a stinkin timer or what on this desktop connection.

I find I mostly just check my email on my toy anymore. I don't even do any posts because it is such a pain to type on the small screen. I'll have to work out something.

Well, it is early and i want to get a few things done.

Loud shirt

I have this multi colored shirt. I like it despite it's age and size...

As I was walking around, someone whispered to me that they could not hear me because my shirt was so load. He further explained it was very colorful. I joked around and told him it was mating season and I'm just trying to attract attention from the females.

About an hour later, I was almost out the door, when this lovely Marylander stopped me and commented on my shirt. I wryly smiled and told her what I told Marty. She only smiled back.

Risks of DC living

There are several risks by living in the DC area: it's a big city, several terrorist and/or military targets, it's not safe from natural disasters. This said, I can not expect sympathy when tragedy strikes. (Assumption of risk.)

I'm not so much proud of my post as I am sick of the sob story. I'm tired of the round the clock coverage... I was just pointing out that there have been worse disasters.

Those who enroll outside of the Southern state, just might get a better education than they would have otherwise. The strain felt will not go away but is it really necessary or wise to constantly dwell on negative news? Life will go on... get over the tragedy already.

Infamy Day

I just remembered again that today was Sept. 11

Has Katrina eclipsed that tragedy? What will eclipse Katrina? The destruction of Vegas by fire?

Church of the Holly Cross

I was reminded about a story today. When my little brother turned 8 and was going to be baptised into the LDS Church, I was in the Holy Cross Hospital for rehabilitation.

My Dad had arranged the baptism to take place in the therapeutic pool there because I was not allowed to leave the hospital at the time. It was kind of different than the normal, but I guess they used to do it in rivers and such.

After the ordinance was preformed, m Dad asked Matthew some questions to see if he understood the importance of what had just taken place.

"Unto what Church were you baptised?" My Dad asked.

"The church of the Holy Cross" came the reply.

Whoa, back up a minute! He is a funny kid.

Dinner group 1

Well, the dinner group did not go as planned but it was good. Of course there are things i could complain about.... maybe I'll just put them in my real journal.

I'm just having fun with my wireless connection on my desktop.

It was good to have a string female presence in the house. I could not say no to one atractive young lady because she had not responded earlier... Maybe I should have? I got distracted and did not talk to the one I really wanted to.

Oh well?

Boring Day

It was pretty slow but it was rather good overall. Tomorrow should be awesome... I have a dinner group lined up. It's the first in this new house.

This coming week frightens me a bit. I feel like I'm being set up.

Tomorrow I shall also be able to connect to the wireless Internet from my desktop. I want a new computer but I can't talk myself into buying one.

Travel Plans

As expected, Travelocity messed with me again. This time I cut out the
middle man and went straight through the airline. It was more expensive, but not by much and now I feel I won't get bumped because I
could not lock in at the advertised price.

And I get an eTicket which saved $20 on shipping! Not sure why I couldn't before.

So much for this silly guaranty commercial.

New toys? New tricks!

I posted this on my resurrected Dell. We got a wireless Internet up in the house now.

I also did my first ever blue tooth connectivity testing. I transferred data from the Axim to my Palm phone It was pretty slick.

There were some security related stuff I need to deal with. Over all, I'm glad I have 4 PDAs.

No changes

Last night I was pretty much the only one home for a while. For the most part I didn't even notice, I was busy cleaning or unpacking.

I made a bunch of phone calls. One to a blind friend in Mississippi. I tried to call the other day but he was without power. I'm glad it was just power loss.

Well, somethings never change. I'm at work wishing I were not, yet glad I have a job.... oh great, what the heck am I talking about?

Big Red

I finally have "everything" moved in. I guess I still could get my vacuum cleaner, but we have no carpet. It is so nice to be in a house. No smoke smell in the early morning, lots of good interaction, and what not.

On the Greentop trip, I was in group 2 whose color was Red. I knew I would not remember most of the names that day so I acquired a list. I only recognize a few names... Stinks. I need a better upgrade to my recall system. Maybe not. There are certain things that should be purged from storage.

I also took part of an orienteering class. I knew most of it, but I thought it was cool to get a map of the Marine base.

Weekend Labor

I have mostly moved in. There are some big items yet to be moved. Here are some pictures of the house. It looks better in person so let me know when you want to stop in...

I am going to Camp Greentop tonight for the whole weekend. I'm not sure it is one of my brightest ideas, but I suppose it will be fun.

I have done a bunch of XML stuff lately at work. It has been a good change.

Week 35

I got up this morning with thankfulness in my heart and hope in the future.

I never watch the news because It is too depressing. I learned
Slidell, LA was flooded too. I guess I should have expected that
because it is across the lake from New Orleans, but I was shocked all
the same. It is a very nice area. Or was.

New Orleans didn't come as much of a shock. I knew it was a death trap when I first set foot in that hole 10+ years ago.

The rising gas prices also saddened me, but life goes on!

Hope you make it great day!
