Decommissioned shoe

I finally tossed this shoe. I used it for years now. I think I came out here with it. Once it started to go, I put them under my desk at work and did the Mr. Rogers thing and changed shoes when I got to work.

Slowly they just fell apart completely.

This was also my first test of the camera on my phone... not that great?

Bus caught

I tried to hitch a ride this morning, but got shafted for a girl. Oh well, I can get over that. I just don't like waiting for buses.

As I approached the bus stop, I saw the bus coming... I almost missed it, but he had to stop at the light. Reluctantly he opened the door. He mumbled something like this was not a bus stop.

"Yeah, " I said as I flashed him the pass. Next time you wait for me at the stop jerk! See how you like it.

Borland POPWatch

I wrote this POP3 Watcher application. I downloaded one off the web but it did not do what I wanted - even after I modified the code.

This was written in Borland C++ 6 (The Navy is behind the technology curve). It is pretty nice, but the data is hard coded as of right now so I always get the error when it checks my work email. But since these are little popup windows or toast windows, they do not get in the way... Well, at least not all the time.

I like how the Google email watcher thing will tell you who emailed you and the subject. Sometimes it is enough to know that. Other times it is awesome to be notified that I got interesting email so I can login and read it if I want to.

Hopefully I'll get the finished product out, but like most good ideas don't get the time to be completed. Too many interests I guess.

Rain, rain, go away

It has been raining quite a bit and it does not seem like there will be much sun this week. It almost flooded at the house. The drain was clogged and fortunately someone noticed before it was too late. I wonder how my sister's old house is holding up... in a few years I would not be surprised to see the hill slide down in to the house after a good rain... The tree roots holding the hill intact might die (or already has) now that the tree itself was cut down.

Anyway, I hear there have been floods elsewhere around the area... Will it ever go away? Don't come back another day. Well, not anytime soon.

It'll be a muddy 4th of July... if it doesn't clear up in time.

Believe in love?

After my little reconnaissance trip, I ended up at the Ballston metro where I ate at I-hop and went to the theater. Of all the movies, I went to see a chick-flick. I did not know what Lake House was about. After gaging on the end, I stormed back to the metro.

Just at the moment I was telling myself there was no reason to hope for love.... Well, I guess not like that in the movies...I passed some young lady who made me stop and rethink my somewhat selfish thoughts. I took this rather secluded route back. I think I disturbed her as I ran by.

I can only speculate why she positioned her wheel chair to face the sun as it was going down. I assume she might struggle with the very subject I was thinking about. Who knows, she may be the mother of two wonderful kids.

Let me see

DASH has new bus. In a cool area I have been to a couple times... and the bus goes straight to King Street metro - near where I currently work. There is an Ihop and movie theatre there: both favorites. I might want to move there before I start thinking about a move to Chicago.

There is even a Wiki entry on the Potomac Yard. if I do not move there, I definitely have go up there via bus and I will even walk one time... looks closer than I thought it was.

Google feature request

I would to be able to synchronize MS Outlook with the Google Calendar. I love getting SMS reminders, but it would be nice to be able to pull up the calendar on my toy without having to get online...

My toy syncs with Outlook. Why can't Google?

All in good time....

Own little world

I tried to read up on Net Neutrality because I thought it would make for some good posts. Still sounds promising, but I too often retreat to my own little world.

I thought it was cool that I fixed this application. I found other code that I would like to use and I would like to integrate that with MS Outlook. Why? because it is cool.

Yeup, I am more of a computer nerd than I care to admit. I know nothing of Ruby, but it was cool that you can compile to run on the .Net Framework now.

Camping

I went to Shenandoah with my sister's family once. We stayed in a cabin, so I guess that wasn't really camping.

Camping honestly was my least favorite merit badge to get as a boy scout. I figure it was because I was with "lawless" scouts and felt like the cook and the grounds keeper all the time... not fun.

I have gone a couple times with friends... it was a lot more fun. I like my hair short so I don't have to worry about it being all messy when I wake up...

I wentwith the ward last year to Camp Greentop. It wasn't really camping, but it was fun. I'm going to miss this year's excursion because of the Disney Cruise! I'm actually looking forward to hanging out with Mickey!

Maybe I can get Belle or Ariel to get in the hot tub with me.... maybe get Ariel to loose the sea shells. (Only joking....)

Sweet. I'l eat here more often?

I went to June Coffee for breakfast. I thought it would be cool if I could get a wifi-connection. I asked them once if they had one, they did not. Somebody had to I thought.

My toy picked up a bunch of networks. Some required a password, others did not let me surf the web unless I logged into their site... There was one network that let me on!

That's what I'm talking about.... free access!

Agecroft Hall

Went on a quick trip to Richmond. My group wanted to get back early and I was not feeling all that great, so I did not bother to find another ride.

It was neat to see Agecroft Hall. We also saw Hollywood cemetery.

Toast Windows?

I have been going through old MSDN magazines on the bus to/work. This morning I stumbled across this article from Sept. 2005. I recently wrote my own "toast" window class in Borland C++. I called them Message Windows.

It is good to know I can use this code. I like the weather service demo too... I'll have to look into modifying the code to send myself SMS/text messages to my cell phone to update me on the weather. But I can just look out the window as well.

Teamwork

It was fun what little time I had with my nieces. i liked when the youngest said my name and some teamwork song.

I got a one Gig mini SD for my new phone. It came with some jacket that I could use in my Dell Axim. Talk about teamwork.

Too bad temporary pleasures are just that, temporary.

Meet the Robinsons (2007)?

I thought Disney shut down this studio once they bought Pixar? Personally, I don't see why they had should have. They should let Pixar be as independent from Disney as possible and let this other Disney studio produce all these other movies, like all the sequels...

See Wikipedia entery on this movie.

Cars tonight?

I heard that some people walked out on the new Pixar film. I guess I went in knowing not to expect much and I thought it was a good show.

Of course I went off on my opinions and historical knowledge about Disney and Pixar. This time I met more resistance. I just like to talk.

Anyway, the trailer for the next Pixar film looks alright. I'm wonder if this desire to put out a Pixar film every year means that the quality is going to go down

Greatest Pickett House party to date

Maybe ever? It was great; over 80 showed... There was a couple parties going on that night so there were people coming and going all night.

I don’t like planning parties on my own because I only get disappointed when few if anyone shows up, so I thought it would be cool to do a joint party.

I leaned an attractive young lady had the same birthday as me, so I asked her. I admit I entertained the idea that it was more to make me look good or at least get closer to her. Big mistake?

After being rejected, the party plans went dormant. I soon learned of other June b-day and asked her. She hesitated because of the same reasons about doing all the planning… but she went along assuming that between us more might show up and make uit worthwhile.

We talked about trying to get Jen on board. She is amazing and guaranteed to attract lots of people, but we overheard she did not like being bothered so much… After sending out the evites, she contacted me saying her roommate had a birthday in june too and wated to join us.

Excelent! I was still a bit worried that there would not be enough food. I know I had not done much planning.. I think there was more left over than what I put into it!

There are great pictures. A beautiful lady, whom I kissed that night, took them. Here is another album. Also, here is a blog entry by Jen’s roommate about the party.

X-Men III

Wow, that was quite the experience. The movie was entertaining. So much more then MI3 and di Vinchi code.

I never really got into the whole Marvel comics, but I always liked the Iceman. There was this Super hero show I watched on occasion as a kid. I was glad to see the Iceman get more time on the big screen.

I never really knew the Wolverine, but he is a tough guy. Too cocky for me though.

Anyway, I was on a date... when that cat women or whatever she was turned into a human and lost her "animal covering"... I understand she was pretty much naked with blue pain on anyway... for the guy audience... Then the sceene with the Wolverine was getting it on with the lady who came back from the dead -- which was silly on it;s own -- I started to laugh. What kind of date was I on? What was my date thinking?

Aside from ALL the sillyness, it was entertaining. I was kind of disappointed when I predicted he would move the bridge! Oh well, it is just a movie.

Nifty sites

I think Google needs to finish a couple projects before they continue to add stuff to their existing plethora of online applications. That said, I thought it was awesome that they are working on an online office suite. Here is the spreadsheet site.

I was also shown the link to the new Church web site.

Great online resources

I had my roommate copy some MP3s he downloaded on BYU broadcasting. I tried to find these old talks myself, but I could not find it. I wanted Hugh B. Brown's talk on Joseph Smith.

After he copied them to my thumb drive, I was told about these sites: The Journal of Discourses and Times and Seasons.

Lost and Old

600px-Astronaut-EVA.jpgI used to have this as my desktop image at the University of Utah. I enjoyed the time spent in that Unix lab.

I found the image on Wikipedia. It has been a week since the OBX trip, where I lost my Wikipedia sweatshirt. Oh well, I guess I'll get a new one.

I also "traded" my blue towel for a purple one. I did not know I had the wrong towel until it was too late.

I do know more about cars

I was telling someone I knew less about cars than I did tennis. That isn't true though. Aside from tennis-shoes, cars are more ubiquidous.

I never learned to play tennis. At Snowbird it was always funner to knock the ball over the fence... finding it again was part of the fun.

I drove around in a parking lot the other day. I like automatics better.

Costco receipts

I thought it would be lame to have the job to check receipts on the way out of Costco. Most of the time, they just mark it without reading it. I was reading this post the other day and wondered if this was the real purpose for this job.

So here's what the employer does: he hires the customer. By putting up a sign saying "Your purchase free if you don't get a receipt," the employer is getting the customer to guard the employee. The customer makes sure the employee gives him a receipt, and employee theft is reduced accordingly.

With credit card transactions, there is a paper trail anyway. I guess this job works for those who pay cash?

New toy: PPC 6700

ppc.jpgI busted my butt to get to the gay SprintPCS store to get this. I like it. I'm taking extra care of it. My Treo got it's keys jammed months ago, the swim in the pool was the last straw that killed it.

I blue-toothed all my contacts from my other toy. Good think I backed up my old phone (the Treo). Looks like I missed a few contacts... my Mom isn't in the database! Who else did I miss?

I wanted the keyboard because I like sending text messages...
