Long compiles

Rude awakinings... Awesome moments.. long compiles... moments I wish I was doing something but can't think of anything to do although I have many options.

That has been my day. I like being busy.

Final Countdown!

I like that song. (Sorry no link.) It brings me back to my good Junior High days.

One final week before my Disney cruise! Many events will transpire over the coming weeks Not sure I can capture them all in a digitized format.

It would have been fun to have all the kids, but I am looking forward to doing many things my way. No security detail, no kids stuff, not very limited on what I can or cannot talk about... my acting financial advisor will be coming an no extra listening ears...

It mattereth not

Wow, I just used a term I did not think was all that weird. But when I was called out, I did a quick search and pulled up all kinds of stuff. My first impression was that it might be anti stuff, so I did a search here.

People will atack anything. No wonder few writers thought they were not mighty in writing as they were in speaking. Frankly, it matterth not what critics say.

Christmas Conference

Every zone in GLBRM back in 1995 made either a short movie or put on a play. I tried to convert the VHS to a digital recording once but the files were too big and I didn’t really know what I was doing. Recording plays don’t do it justice either.

Anyway, our zone did a spin off Wayne’s World. I thought it was pretty clever. I just saw the original movie. Elder Wayne and Elder Garth.

Another zone did a COPS–like show where the APs would bust “off the Plan” missionaries. That was pretty funny.

The best play was probably the Lehi story. I thought it was fun that Nephi went willingly back to Jerusalem except when they were to get Ishmals family. Lamen and Lemuel had to drag Nephi…

Another zone did a Star Trek – like play. Their ship was called the USS Baptize or something. Their mission? To boldly go where no missionary had gone before... To seek out new investigators…

Oh, I almost forgot the video on health and safety tips. If a beverage of floaties is served to you, dump it out secretly. If mystery meat is severed (A.K.A. road kill), use the special disposal bags provided by the mission office. Tracks make good TP when something unsettling is digested and emergencies arise.

Wayne’s World

There was a guy in the zone who had some video editing equipment. Our zone did a great mock up of Wayne and Garth as missionaries.

It started out with an interview of two Elders. All the time being made fun of with the cue cards… Then Garth thought it would be fun if they were missionaries… NOT!

Anyway, they go through this fantasy where they are missionaries. The tract into Mr. Rogers, played by Elder Drake. Rogers had ordered a Book of Mormon

He demonstrated that the book had many picture – pictures.

They tracted into the Pope, John Paul II. When that door opened the missionaries feel to the ground. “We’re not worth.” They chanted.

Wayne corrected the scene. “Hold on.”

Rewind. The door opens, the Pope falls to his knees. “I’m not worthy!” he chants.

“Excellent!” shouts Wayne and Garth as they congratulate each other.

They tract into some bum (Elder Young, my comp.), President Bush Sr. (Elder Barris who was on the cover of USA Today once as a missionary), Forest Gump, and some French guy (Elder Platt who got sent home a few months later I think).

Anyway, it was a really fun little production. Wish I could show it to everyone. It’s packed up in Utah somewhere.

Info on the past

I recently talked to someone who was in the Timpanogos 8th ward before I got there. I was told of how it was a huge ward that split... in time it got very small because everyone migrated to the other ward. That makes perfect sense why I thought it was a museum of freaks when I got there. Granted, I fit right in.

There were some really great people there so I can't say they were all freaks. Just a bunch of them. Leftovers?

Well, that is all in the past now. It could be a really awesome ward now. Who cares? I'm not gong back.

Roller coaster of life

I made a poor choice to sleep on a chair by the fire over the weekend. I got little sleep and got eaten by many bugs. I wonder how many bug bites I got... A bunch still remain!

In a few weeks I'll get new roommates. Not sure how I feel about all that. I wonder how much social stuff will go on. How much will I not be invited to? I mean, like rats, some invitations are selfishly kept private. I admit I do it too at times, unfortunately if I want a ride, I have to share.

I'll be going out of the country for a while too. When I get back how much different will things change? The next big event would be my new niece. After that? I get kicked out of the ward. So much time between those events... Make the best of it is all I can do.

What a weekend.

I stumbled to the front door last night. Is it possible to get a sunburn on your eye? I got more sleep last night but might need to take a nap later. Long day ahead: big dinner group, and a going away or good luck party.

Then back to the slave lounge on Monday.

It was really great to be around people I know and love...maybe one day one will be part of the family? Cheers!

Assateague Island

Should be going here tomorrow. If everything goes well.... transportation and what not. Joint ward activity with the old Langley Ward. Should be fun.

Going camping in Delaware tonight. (Assuming all goes well.) I joined a group I over heard my roommates talking to. I figure what the heck?

I installed the latest Google toolbar, and it fixed one issue I had with IE7. So, no worries there?

Computer Usage Governor

The perfect gift for someone who uses the computer too much would be a program that limits the time one can stay on the computer. After 8 hours of work, or 2-3 hours of playing games (time set by the wife?), the computer locks up.

Of course there would have to be an override if there was an emergency, but if abused would come at a cost: random file deletion or some other destructive action.

I guess when the computer is idol, then that time doesn’t count. Just an idea I had the other day. It was time to go and I told people my computer locked up…

Plant talk on the road

On the way to/from Kentucky this last weekend, we had many conversations. One of which was the idea of talking to plants or playing them music. My brief search resulted with little to go on, but this site seemed to clear things up a bit. I especially liked the following.

Ultimately, there is little concrete evidence that talking to your plants or playing music for them will help them grow, but we say if you enjoy it, by all means, do it. Just don't let the neighbors catch you!

Oh well, I guess all those times I talked to my plants may not have done much good. Except provide it with carbon dioxide!

What is this about sprinkling?

It is kind of raining out this morning. Yesterday was prefect… on all aspects. Well, I was reminded why I don’t like web development. The other day I witnessed again how all browsers are not the same.

When developing a MS Windows software application, you are pretty much guaranteed it will run the same on all machines and mostly likely every version of the OS. With lousy Java though, it is “write once, test everywhere”. So it is with web stuff.

But this reminder regarded a “minor” change from the user stand point that caused quite a headache to change. I must be the only one in the world that generally doesn’t get all bent out of shape if a web form asks for a certain format or what not. I only get mad if the site doesn’t do anything or is too slow.

Working from home again

I messed something up and will need to fix it at work tomorrow. I'm starting to panic that I may have stomped on several things between working at home and at work.

I hope it was just this one file. I'll kill someone if it is not. OK, I won't.

Listening to music, taking breaks in my own kitchen... is really awesome. No one to bug me, I close my door... I need one of those at work!

Eye patch

For the first time in a long while, I had to pull out my eye patch at work. Wouldn't be so bad if I had my own office. Or at least my back to the wall.

Found a possible issue with IE 7. The alignment is off. Maybe I'm just having issues with the current running app.

End of week

It has been quite an interesting weekend. Not sure what to think of it all. Most of it was great. Sure, there are always things that could have been better. We won't even talk about the flops.

Going to the beach this coming Saturday. Should try for a date Thurs. or Friday. Just a hard choice of who. Too many great choices! If only one would choose me... well, one whom I would choose as well.

Anyway, Church was great. Mostly like normal. Had a couple friends over for dinner. The rest of the day was kind of boring. I vainly water the lawn every night and it still looks like a death trap.

Washington DC comics?

I got a brief lesson on comic book Superheros yesterday. I started to wonder what "DC" in "DC Comics" meant because the Six Flags was close to DC (the District) and they had lots of DC Comic Supers there.

Another wikiality?

... The initials "DC" were originally an abbreviation for Detective Comics, and later the official name. DC Comics should not be confused with British comic publisher D.C. Thomson...

See link on Wikipedia for DC comics.

Not the best time to play hooky?

That depends on your point of view. I thought it was awesome going with a friend to Six Flags America. There was a small crowd of kids... had to be careful who I was checking out... might have been a sixteen year old!

I got new water shoes and wanted to test them out. My friend did not seem prepared so we left the park for lunch and got sandals at the dollar store baby! I then noticed he had all his wallet stuff in a plastic bag... I quickly took out all the paper stuff out of my wallet and asked him to hold it for me.

It was really hot. Over 100 degrees. Glad I had 50 proof sunblock.... I like being a white man.

I was exhausted a couple of hours before closing time. Since the lines were so short we decided we tried all the rides we wanted (and some of those twice). So, we left. Only this Batman ride wasn't running.

My friend is a Superhero nut. We had a great time.

No surprises here

We had a rather fun meeting today. Although I tried hard to work hard, I knew months ago that one day they would come down griping we were over budget. That had nothing to the punk contractor I didn't want them to hire.

Am I the only one who doesn't seem to worry? I'll show up, work hard... And I'll leave when I want to. Nothing new there?

Well that is enough for now. Never ending ball of fun. When can I get back?
