Prove It!

I took some .Net Framework tests online. I did fairly well considering unfortunately I have not done as much as I would have liked. It was great because it pointed out some cool information on what to look up. Namely, ASP.Net Validation objects.

When I had the pleasure of doing this PHP project for NOAA, I found some validation code. I mainly used Regular expressions. Too bad that project went to the way side.

Not only is there so much free info in the web, I was reminded about the ACM resources that work is paying for. Wish I had more time to go through all of this...

Happy Halloween

There have been several events since my last post. Like usual, there is but little time to do all that I want.

I talked to a bunch of people this evening at Institute. It was fun, I'll miss these times, but unfortunately I can't say I'm leaving the scene anytime soon.

I also wish i was like Tony somewhat. So many great people I'd like to hug!

Expect something extra

Another reason to dislike CVS is that all the myriad of stores out here seem to be separate entities. Or the pharmacist did not understand my request.

I have been putting off getting this prescription filled. I was going to go to CVS to do this. This is the only reason I go to lousy store. My past experiences have not been all that great.

I refuse to get a lame card just so I can feel like I am saving money. I think the other time the cashier was being a punk...

Anyway, I went into the CVS in Old Town with an inquiry. Like banks, you can go to any branch and get the same service. I wanted to know if I could drop off my prescription here and pick the filled prescription at the one closer to my place of residence.

It would have been a simple transfer of info...The lady looked at me as, unfortunally a lot of people do at times, like I was some kind of retard. I didn't want to try to explain, but I look back and should have flipped her off. Just for a dramatic scene. (OK, not really. That would have been silly.)

"You'll still have to wait." was her argument.

For what? By the time I got to the other store later that day, it would be filled. Am I the only one that has ever requested this or do I need to call it be some lame term like when you try to order something at a fast food place.

See at McDonald's you can get a cheese burger by ordering a cheese burger. At Wendy's it is a Jr. Cheese burger. At Burger King? A cheese burger Jr. I lost my patience at some place once... it is hard for me to read the menu sometimes. "Just give me a damn cheese burger and call it what ever the hell you want."

And they wanted me to come in yesterday

wh.jpgI left the house early, and was tempted to stop in at work for an hour. Glad I decided against that, I really did not want to be late.

I got to old City Hall to find all kinds of merchants selling their goods. i also went to CVS which deserves it's own post. Anyway, I waited around in the park reminiscing of earlier memories.

I went on this Archaeological history walking tour of the water front. The weather started to turn very nice. I was surprised there was so many interested in the tour.

On the way home from the tour, i got a text message regarding garden tours of the White House. I was on my way to stop in at work, but thought to take advantage of such an opportunity.

I tried to call my Dad to rub it in. I should get better pictures from some people I ran into while there. I only had my cell phone camera, but this image is recognizable.

On the way back to Alexandria when I again thought to stop in at work, but my roommate called to ask when we were going shopping.... I wanted to go before Stake Conference anyway.

After the great meeting, there was a party at the house. What a day indeed. I hope those who did go in to work had lots of fun....

Eye gouging

I almost got my eye gouged on the walk to the bus stop. This low hanging branch had a twig poking off it that I did not see this rather dark morning. It caught the lower part of me eye lid... That was too close.

Almost got a bad scratch a few weeks ago while running to the bus one late evening. I had my hands in front of me but still managed to almost get as scratch on my eye.

I need to be careful. Way too many close calls!!!

Active week

It has been quite a week. I have been all over the area. it's been kind of fun, but at times I have enjoyed I have nothing planned every hour.

I saw the President's motorcade and this museum. I did not have to pay because someone gave me an invite. It was pretty interesting.

There is so much to do... I have had to go shopping for over a week.

Hearing my favorite things

I was turned down with the phrase "I'm interested in someone else.". Haven't heard that in a while. No kidding you are interested in someone else, who isn't?

I got agitated when someone said thanks to a supposed compliment. I never did say I liked her beads or that they were even nice. Why people think only a smile will make my day?

What I dislike the most is hearing to what I already know. Or rather the manner in which it is told. I was loosing my balance once, grabbed this rope thinking it would give the necessary tension to stabilize myself. When the rope gave way and in a split second, I grabbed some one's shoulder but they started to give way too. I let go only to hear this person shouting "You're falling, you're falling."

Thanks. The acceleration of my face heading to the ground wasn't obvious.

The sound of the violin has to be the worst sound in the world. One roommate thinks it is an appropriate hour to kill the cat!

Weekend Report

Went to the ward party for about an hour. I had a headache, talked to a few people I wanted to talk to, played kickball and left. It was fun, but this giant "hang-out" session went on forever.

Church was alright. I was tired from running two days in a row and going to bed so late... Talked to more great people that I wanted to. Talked to some "punks" too.

Took a nap when I got home. Installed IE7 (no beta). Went to a dinner and a meeting were being single is an issue. I walked out on the poster "child"... it was quite annoying. Oh well.

Updating my site because it went down and all my data got erased. My other server provided by a "friend" was taken down sometime ago. I'll have to fix stuff on this blog site too.

Disney's Gremlins

I saw this book last night while waiting for someone who was joining me for dinner. I thought it was interesting it was written by Ronald Dahl.

I read a bunch of Dahl books when I was a kid. I think I'd like this book, or rather I'd like to see the cartoon.

The dinner was Ok. The service was terible! Oh well.

Digital Renaissance

I am always impressed with the amount of information out there on the
Internet. I was reading up on more legal stuff, then got sidetracked with some sounds.

I subscribe to M-W's word of the day. I have it come to several email accounts. I figure the more I read the word the more likely I will be able to remember it. I also got the RSS feed in my Aggregator. Now, I found the podscast feed that I added to iTunes!

Hearing the pronunciation of the word as well as the usage in a sentence always helps. I also like hearing about the origin of the word or some other fact.

Commercial law?

I never heard Business Law called Commercial law, but then again I know there are many things I do not know.

Reading all this legal information, I was desirous to pull out some of my old books or CDs and read more. I got this Business Law book on CD when i was in school. I think i took it out here with me.

It has been a busy evening. I should go to bed but I still have a bunch to do. Or rather, a bunch I want to get done.

Nature of the Beast?

Politics has never really interested me. It seems too much mudslinging goes on. I suppose not all of them are like that, but the few turn me off.

F# and Comega?

I started to read this article before I read the author was from Prague. After I learned where he was from, the rather choppy English started to stand out. Note the misuse of the words: "the" and "a", etc.

The content of the article was equally baffling. Who thinks up names like ?

So they added a Variant type to C#? Was not that the biggest thing VB.Net was trying to get rid of? VB6, VBScript use Variant types. Now the .Net is going back to them?

Largest Mob rule party?

This Saturday, four singles' wards in the area will descend on a top secret WWII military intelligence operations. Now, it is a park called Fort Hunt

Should be fun... like almost all crazy, non committal, somewhat selfish singles' activities are. I wish to get out of this single ward life, but looks like the only way I can is through apostasy or expiration!

Oh well, life is a bi--? Just want to have one of my own?

Disney War comment V

I don't recall it mentioned Mulan. It briefly mentioned the cruise ships. What other stories were left out?

It told the story about how Survivor started out of Disney but did not really explain how it got on CBS.

I did like story that an analyst or whoever that said the Disney executives were not a team. They all seemed at odds with Eisner. There were a few who came out and said they did not want to deal with him directly.

Awesome date

I had an awesome time last night with an awesome woman. I look back on what could have made it even better, but I should just leave the memory as it was.

I went to the National Portrait Gallery today. my date from the previous evening would like that place.

Hopefully there will be other dates with her in the future. Possibly the near future!

Observing life

Listening to the Disney War makes me anxious to read about other companies. I used to get the USA Today and read the business section. I have always thought it would be rather neat to be a board or the inside tract on a major corporation.

Every time I see a new product, I get the same feeling. How did they decide to go with this product? Whose idea was it? What was the research done to take a risk on such a product?

It apparently isn’t as fun as creating software, or I just have not had any opportunities to be on the “inside”. I suppose there are millions lining up to replace those seemingly few that make it into the New York Time’s article I read this morning on Yahoo!, Google, AOL, MSN, etc.

Strange Museum

Late last Saturday afternoon, I got invited to go this medical museum. I saw one on the TV once. It was pretty weird stuff. I think that one was in Philly.

This one was weird enough. We only had a few minutes before it closed. Too much was packed into that evening. It was a lot of fun though. Glad I was invited.

Kingmen

Wow, I guess I just am too misinformed to be a good movie critic. I know I have little interest in most actors or actresses names... Anyway, went and saw All the King's men.

They only neat part of the movie was that it reminded me of O Brother where art thou which I thought I heard was making fun of the Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long. I might of heard it on the DVD commentary.

Prior to watching the Kingmen movie, I asked if it was about Long. But then started to say that I thought he was a Senator.

Wikipedia only stated that in O Brother, the governer of Louisiana (not Long) used the song "You are my sunshine" to promote his candidacy.

A roommate asked if Long was corrupt. I think he was talking about David Duke, who apparently was never governor.

Oakdale H.S.

The trouble with making so many entries is that I forget what I have already spoken on and hard to find stuff I swear I did post.

In Oakdale, the high school seemed to be one of the centers of activity. The kids would drive up and down main street, in front of the high school. There was absolutely nothing else to do.

There was a place where we got 3 burgers for a dollar during happy hour. Another place on a particular day, had giant hamburgers for a dollar. It was a fun little spot. I had a picture of the high school, lets see if I can find one on the Internet.

Where are they now?

I like to look ahead when I read books and fast forward through movies... Just get to the good stuff. Well, I have looked a few things up while listening to
the Disney War book. Sometimes, I have stumbled across future pieces of the
story.

I wanted to know where Michael Eisner was now. He came across so differently than the nice pleasant guy I remembered from the Wonderful World of Disney intros. The book mentions that he does have charm at times, but these intros were staged by a personal director...

How did he ever get the top job at Disney... oh wait, that was in the book.
What company would be dumb enough to have him on the board after the Disney incident? Veoh? Only a lame company I guess.

What happened to Michael Owitz, who is more wealthy than I ever will be so I don't feel too sorry for, seemed to have been screwed by Disney or Eisner. He was a great deal maker, but was hampered many times by Disney. Sounds like Owitz is just relaxing now...

And Roy Disney? Looks like he is doing well.

Jeffery Katzenberg seemed like a jerk on his own, but he seems to be doing
very well With DreamWorks and all. I do admire all the good shows he helped come out.. like the Lion King.

No Date with Doctor!

I was all set to ask Dr. Derma out...

When she called me into the room, I noticed she was nicely dressed and was wearing glasses.

"You look nice today." I complemented on her outfit. Although she always looks very nice.

Anyway, I guess it was a busy day. She seemed a bit disorganized. When I tried to talk to her about her glasses and all, she said she wears glasses to drive and if she was in a hurry she tends to forget to take
them off.

Dr. Derma shares an office with her father. He is a Gyne doctor but this card says Skin care doctor. Huh, that is weird.

Anyway, last visit I joked around with Dr. Derma saying that I guess I had no need to see her father. I wanted to find out their relation because she doesn't wear a ring...

She called her father in to help today. That really put a bind on all the flirting I wanted to do.

I suppose if I were sly enough I could of gotten away with something. Oh well, meeting the Dad only makes it a bit easier? Well, if we ever go out...

My next appointment is Halloween. I should dress up in a tux or something.... just for kicks. See what she says.

Multiphasic fun

Here is something I thought was funny. Looking up the word multiphasic
on M-W.com, resulted in disambiguation phase of sorts. Double click on
"multiphasic" takes you back to the same "phase"! How do you define this multi- phasic word!

I was looking up some information on psychology. I told a friend I liked to look up stuff to intelligently talk to those who are in school. This was his field of study and so I accepted the topics.

Hmm, that was weird stuff. Personality tests.

Offend the little ones

Best Conference talk ever!

I've always thought new members needed a friend, a responsibility, ... and a talk about reality and common sense. Elder Bednar addressed just that need.

I always yawned at the sob stories about people who left the Church because they got offended. Welcome to real life!
