Wrinkle in Time

Just finished listening to it yesterday. I was on stand by afternoon. By evening, I wanted to go to bed early... I watched Breach then went to bed.

It was a good kids book. I saw bridge to Tarabithia and thought that book might be interesting to listen to as well.

I only remembered a few things from the book when I read it as a kid.

Clive Cussler

Think I found a new author I want to read/listen to. My current book is great but to get the most out of it, I need to listen to it again and again without distractions.

Anyway, we got a bunch of books from the neighbor's a long while back. Until a friend of mine wanted a Cussler book to read, I never paid any attention.

I looked the book over. Looks interesting. The author has been writing books as early as 1973. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Cussler

Going Home

Where is home? For me I think it is both a place and a time.

At work, I find myself saying I wish I was home. Once back to the Animal House, I find myself saying the same thing.

Went to my parents for Christmas. I thought that was home, but it wasn't. Well, not really. It used to be.

Jesus the Christ - Audio book

I finally downloaded the Talmage book to my iPod. It took a couple hours. Seriously.

Once I got it on my baby, I looked to see how long it would take to listen to. 1.3 days!

I'm about 11 hours into it. Almost half way?

Easter report

Went to my Aunt's. Glad I brought someone who is likes to listen and watch. I barely knew these in-laws there. Why didn't we go to their place? It's bigger if I remember correctly.

Oh well. It was good food and all. I got some info on the USS Patterson. I have this hat with that name on it. I'm not sure how long i have had it. Always assumed that was the what my Uncle was on, just never verified it before.

I managed to bust the picture frame. It was a crazy picture of the two families. We were crammed into a closet for that one.

Friday Threat level: yellow

I wasn't sure wither to talk about the rather amusing protesters or about the Animal House. Formally called the Pickett house. Both topics are rather good.

Went to the monthly inve$tment club meeting. Unfortunately, they are not using or even advertising the Google group I created for it. It creates an open forum instead of the unidirectional flow of a blog.

Oh well, I should get a bunch accomplished this weekend. Fells like I have been trying to catch up on everything. Especially because of the Chicago trip.

Finished Shadow Divers. It was a good story. i liked the interview's with the actual people the most. It was like listening to an audio commentary.

Wasted money?

I bought another book off Audible. I wonder if I wasted my money. I heard Shadow Divers was a good book. It looked interesting; I guess it still is. I just don't like all the swearing.

Oh well, I'm listening to it now. Maybe I'll even finish the book. After all, I did pay for it.... Maybe I'll be paying for some time.

Well, next time I hope I get a better book.

Only regret in Chicago?

I met this person during Linger Longer. The moment I learned she was from Texas. I lamented.

"Why can't you people stay in that state."

I then tried to explain myself, but only dug my hole deeper.

Random events

When I first moved to DC, I did not really permit myself to go to a few things: FHE, parties, etc. I was always afraid of getting stranded. Cabs are expensive so I did not want to use them that often. OK, I was/am a penny pincher, so I did not want to use them at all.

Anymore and especially on my Chicago trip, I used cabs all the time. Well, when necessary.

I had gathered a bunch of intel but in the back of my mind I knew that where ever I went, I would call a cab to get me to the hotel.

On the train ride from the airport, I got off on Grand Ave. thinking there was something grand to see. It was late so walking around didn't seem too exciting but I was going to do it anyway. Besides, I didn't print out what stop I was supposed to get off.

The second I got to the street some cab stopped for me. I jumped in and we drove to the hotel. I almost had him stop the car when I got a glimpse of the Sears tower. Would have made a grand picture. My cheap disposable camera probably would not have worked well.

Saturday when I got cold, I jumped on a bus because it was warm. I assumed it would stay down town but it went north on some highway by the lake. I figured I was going on the same path the cab took the previous night.

When it in fact, stopped near my hotel, I jumped off and watched the parade from my warn room.

Sunday evening I was rather board and jumped on a bus. This time it was going south. My friend called and asked where I was so we could meet up. He got out of his dinner engagement. Turns out the bus was going towards his house... so it worked out well.

Too much TV?

I saw a JAG episode a few weeks ago I could have done without. Oh well, I guess every show has some really dumb stuff.

I have been on this MI-5 trip I suppose. I have gotten many Netflix DVD's on the BBC show of the organization. Like JAG, it is very interesting but a bit much to be believable. I mean for the main characters to have repeated adventure after adventure.

The show also reminded me of 24 and the West Wing. The split screen of the different camera views is just like 24; not sure who did that first. Somebody said this methodology was part of our evolution? What, are we growing extra eyes to watch the different view windows?

Anyway, it was like West Wing in that I would wonder sometimes what I just watched when it was over.

I don't watch sequentially, but the main character got replaced. What was the story behind that? He was asking for too much money to continue making the show?

I''m done with the show. I packed up the other two DVDs and will send them back. Besides, I will not have time to watch them this weekend anyway... send me something new.

Dinner was good

I had the perfect plan. i didn't plan on the bus not showing up at all though! I was so upset because I was late and had no way to contact her. I panicked, jumped off the bus and ran to where we were to meet. I didn't see her and thought she left. I was 15 minutes late.

I thought I missed another dinner because of things out of my control. But after doing a quick walk through of the place, I meet up with her at the entrance. Did I walk by her on the way in?

The conversation was good. The food was good; but I have always like Joe's. We took a cab home; she didn't have a car either. We parted at 8:15. She was supposed to meet a girl friend at 8. Dang bus!

Another fine morning.

I made an easy $10 this morning. At least I would have had someone bet me on my silly wagers on wither not I had good email waiting for me. I was expecting at least one.

Yesterday I could have got $100! I figured the waitress from the previous night wouldn't take me up on my information offer we talked about. I told her about the Documentary Club these new transplants to the area have started.

Anyway, I did find my iPod and should put it in my safe. So when I loose the replacement I picked up, I can always fall back on the original. Note the replacement was free!

Busboys and Poets - VA

I pretty much invited myself to go to this place in VA. I guess the District has the original. At first I thought it was a music band, but it wasn't too far from the truth. It was open mike poetry reading!

Oh, my. I thought. I recalled this rather socially inept guy from the Center Ward reciting his love poem. "Burning! " he shouted. "Burning! Burning! Gone."

I was surprised to find myself enjoying it. More than just the incredibly attractive waitress whom I tipped fairly big. 50% I think.

We walked around Shirlington to find a place to eat dessert but all the places were closed so we went back to where we were. I asked for the same waitress. Her name was on the receipt.

I don't think she was tipped and I failed to remedy that. One guy put it on his card because he didn't have cash. We had separate bills at dinner. Oh well, hopefully I will see her again one day. Yeah, what are the odds of that?

Rats of all kind

Why am I paying for all the unwanted infestations? Well, I guess that is what I get for not moving.

And the pious snob condemns me when i say my time table is indeed better. Or rather, I supposed, would have been better than what I have now.

Well, what's next? How much will that cost me?

Cypher test

Giv eqa uiy?

What in the world is this? How would you decipher the line above if you came across it? Would it be worth the time to figure it out? How long would it take to figure out? How many messages would you need to intercept before you figured out that the message used the following code:

A B D G I J L N Q S U V X
E C F H O K M P R T Y W Z

In junior high school, Seth Jardine and I used this to pass messages. We replaced vowels with other vowels so we could speak the code as well.

Rainy, Lazy Day

Unfortunately most of my weekends seem to be lazy days. I guess I just feel that way if I'm not out and about every hour. There is just so much to see and to do and have done to me... :)

I don't feel so bad when it is cold and/or rainy out. I just get miserable when cold/wet.

Well, I went to a going away party last night. Didn't know they were engaged. That's great; good for them.

Slow Money Goal

Last night I had the goal to get 1,000 people as friends on facebook. it is addicting. Anyway, today someone added me and they 500. I thought 200 was a lot. I only have about 70. :)

Anyway, I think my iPod is gone. I don't want to buy a new one. Maybe I can buy a used one for cheep.

My sister just got a nice job. I thought it was great.

I've slowed down at my job a bit. Just working smarter really. It was awesome to reuse code I wrote moths ago. Sweet.

Grow and Stay Rich

Shortly after I talked to Ric's employee, I got this invite in the mail. It was like a wedding reception invite and the return address was on the back. It was from Provo.

It was a VIP invite to some wealth conference. I tried to ask an old friend to go but he has resorted to his rather snobbish nature now that he is making money again.

Anyway, I almost went by myself but talked myself out this afternoon. I went running instead although it was a bit chilly out. That makes three days this week!

Morning thoughts

Still need to get some ETF's. keep dragging my feet to roll over my old 401k.

Went out for ice cream with an old roommate and his family. They are moving. I bought a bunch of metro cards off them for half price.

Listened to the latest TWIT last night. Worst podcast ever. Don't let Dave on the panel again! Smart guy, I'm sure.

Chicago

Going for St. Patrick's day. Hopefully it will warm up some more by then.

I heard they go crazy there. I just want to get away from here.

Hard to believe it is just around the corner.

OBX 2008

This year I wanted to get a house of my own. Early January I reserved a place only to learn (weeks later)I had the wrong check-in day. I scrambled to get another place in the same location.

I found one that was twice as expensive and on the water front. I made the final payment this morning. I need to view it as a serious investment in entertainment. Lots of life points?

Now, I need to work out the details for food and all. Still months away, but I just want things to go smoothly. I'm sure it will be fine... taking my time to fill the place. :)

80's party

Last night we had one of the biggest parties at the house. Not by our doing. Unfortunately, no one in the house has that kind of clout or diligence to throw a party of any size. Should e a group effort...

Anyway, we hosted a party. It was a lot of fun. Several people showed up. Many I did not know or did not recognize. Lot's of great punk rock hair styles...

Went to bed after 1am but got up early because the sun came up and my body said to get up. burning daylight.
