435 + 2

Here is an interesting article about what Tom Davis (R-VA), my representative in Congress, has come up with to stop the constant whining to our north. He wants to give Washington, DC a voting representative in the House of Representatives. He also wants to give another representative to the State of Utah because it is under-represented. A pretty interesting compromise.

  4. It is an interesting idea to give Utah another Rep. But I would deal with the “no taxation without representation” problem for people living in the district a little differently. End the federal taxation of people in the district. Easy enough. However, they should also end all federal money including welfare, etc., that goes to the district. I think that would solve the problem easy enough.

I doubt DC would go for my plans because they are on the federal gravy train. I don’t think they care so much about taxation, I think they want more gravy.

  5. I agree with Dan…Of course they want more gravy. I don’t necessarily think giving DC a rep is a good idea. I did think it was an interesting proposal though.

I’ve heard the “eliminate federal income tax on DC residents” argument for solving this problem before and I like it.

Another idea I heard was to give DC back to Maryland. Let it be Washington, MD. I think this would require a Constitutional amendment but it would still be a good idea. We could get rid of much of the very screwed up DC government and stop the whining!!!
