Ronald Reagan
It has always bugged me that Reagan got the reputation of being a stupid man who could do nothing but act out the part of being a great man. I didn’t really have any information to refute the claims made against one of my heros…I think that is what really bugged me.
Read these letters posted at Time magazine’s website from the book Reagan: A Life In Letters to get a better idea of what he was really like.
He may have made some mistakes and was far from a perfect guy or a perfect president…but he was a whole lot better than any president we’ve had since…and at least as good as any guy to precede him.
He was great because he was a good man. He was a great president because he wasn’t afried of his ideals…he stated them and pursued them as policy even when it wasn’t always the most popular thing to do. The guy we have in office now doesn’t come close to meeting that standard but I guess it could be worse (the Democrats running for office…all 10 of them…are even more wishy washy).
I haven’t bought the book yet (it goes on sale tomorrow) but this letter is my favorite of those that have been published on the internet. I also loved this one.

It broke my heart when I read this. I was glad you didn’t post the sources to all the mean comments those people have said against my favorite U.S. President.
True, I followed his administration about as much as another president and most of it was when he was out of office. I thought he was a kick butt cowboy in comparison to the “ask questions first then shoot” cowboy, George W. Bush.
I know Regan was an actor because his greatest bluff, as far as I know, was the Star Wars program. I don’t mean it was another George Lucas concoction.
I liked the RAPPIN’ RON / RAY GUN garbage pail kids card and the D.C. follies television show although I probably didn’t understand what was going on. I was only 10 at the time.
I also remember his tribute to the space shuttle Columbia. Click here for the audio. (Requires Real Player)
Reagan was the best president in my lifetime!

Darling Son, you are so easily impressed. The only thing Reagan can lay claim to, is that he was almost as good an actor as George Bush!

Easily impressed? Ron Reagan’s silly letter to the boy who asked for federal funds to help clean his disastrous bedroom had more information on where he stands on policy issues than Wesley Clark’s whole website. You put bumper stickers on your car supporting a guy who doesn’t claim to stand for anything (or who changes his story on where he stands on a monthly basis). Perhaps you should re-apply the “easily impressed label” next to that bumper sticker on your Geo instead of on my website.

President Reagan entered office stating three simple goals, re-invigorate the oil embargo shocked economy, modernize the Vietnam era military and balance our ballooning national debt. By the time he left office he said that two out of three isn’t bad. The greatest acomplishment of his adminstration is seen with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The economic growth that followed wiped out the fearsome debt more tax revenue and producted a business cycle that allowed the Clinton adminstration to raise taxes and claim credit for that boom in his eight years.
