Making the Depression More Depressing
Here is a column by Thomas Sowell about FDR. Sowell has always been one of my favorite writers. I have many of his books and am always looking forward to the next thing he writes.
I’ve always disliked the fact that FDR is considered a hero by many historians for getting the U.S. out of the depression. Anyone who has studied history and has a rudimentary background in economics can see that most of the policies of the New Deal only exacerbated the problems that existed in the 30’s. Sowell’s column does a good job explaining some examples.
FDR was every bit as slimy as Clinton and G.W. Bush. World War II saved his reputation and ended the Great Depression. For some information on a great 20th century president who deserves the praise he gets check out this post.
