I Like Rice
I don’t like Bush and he probably won’t get my vote in 2004 (he didn’t get it in 2002). I would change that opinion though if Condi were to run with him. I think she’d make a great Vice President and an even better President. Cheyney should step aside and encourage Dr. Rice to take his spot on the ticket. It would guaranty a win in 2004 and Rice would have a great shot at becoming the first woman (and black) president of the United States in 2008. More important than the demographics though…Dr. Rice is smart. Very smart. Click on the Image to the left and read up on how cool and intelligent Condoleeza Rice is.

I’m dumb (thats not news…) I meant I didn’t vote for Bush in 2000…not 2002. Thanks Char.

Jeremy, three cheers for your posting regarding what the Bush Administration needs to do with Gen. Boykin.
That being said, however, Condi Rice for Vice-President?? Let’s be real. The woman is a great historian from what I’m told, but her ability to lead is seriously in question. She managed to alienate the vast majority of administrators during her time as provost at Stanford University, before joining Bush’s team. As National Security Advisor, her job should be to work to coordinate and harmonize the foreign policymaking elements of Bush’s team. Her failure to do that is painfully obvious. If the Republicans just want a black woman on the ticket, then she’s a fine choice. But if they want an effective leader, they should look elsewhere. (Ok, I’ll admit, that brings up the whole question of whether it is politically prudent to choose an effective leader as your running mate - and risk being upstaged at some point - a discussion for another time perhaps)

Nate raises an interesting point about Vice Presidents. Note the Vice Presidents for the last 20 years. In reverse order, Cheney, Gore, Quayle, George H.W. Bush. Who was the most effective leader of these guys? H.W. Bush, since he’s the only one who became President? Is the Vice President any more than window dressing?

You do need to start a soapbox. You always have interesting things to say.
While interesting you are sometimes a little light on specifics so I’m forced to defend Rice from your rather vacuous accusations:
I think a pretty good defense could be mounted for Rice’s success as National Security Advisor. She inherited an absolute mess as far as the bureaucracy is concerned. She came to office with a a very anti-military (and in my opinion somewhat anti-American) State Department and a very anti-diplomatic Pentagon both with huge egos that needed balancing. She has played them off each other quite well and done a relatively good job putting together a foreign policy that has clear goals…contrast that with the previous administration.
As far as her record at Stanford is concerned I’m surprised you would ever think someone who is clearly as politically minded and conservative as Rice would do anything but bump heads with the typical leftist dregs of academia.

Forget starting a website. That is so 1999. You need your own BLOG! I’m posting some information today on how to get a blog started for anyone who is interested. You can start an average blog for free and an outstanding one like Dan’s for a little more than $5/month. ($70/year for a hosted site and your own domain name)

You can research all you want…you won’t find anything this clear, straight forward and sensible coming from somone on the left.
Until you lefties can come up with a foreign policy that actually addresses real threats and issues our country faces you really aren’t in any position to effectively criticize the current administration
