Just when I figured I’d had it with the Republicans and started to consider what the Democrats had to offer I read this statement:

“Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you,” Sen. Clinton said. “We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”

Only profanity comes to my mind when I read that. I’ll stop typing now. Good night.

  1. Amazing how a little fiscal responsibility will upset conservatives these days.

This quote kind of makes me wonder what follows “well enough off that…”

This kind of honesty must be an annoying intrusion into the republican fantasy world where you can massively cut taxes while simutaneously increasing spending. That’s OK, you don’t have to pay for it! Leave it to the kids!

  2. I agree with you that the “…” in that sentence is problematic. Even so…Hillary’s proclamation that she and her fellow socialists are going to “take things away” from us “on behalf of the common good” should be at least worrying to you…shouldn’t it? Perhaps you’re in a parallel democrat fantasy world where the proletariat of the world have finally united and torn down the bourgeois idea that anyone has a right to any of the wealth they create. Good luck with that comrade.

  3. While I won’t try to argue against you on the relative good or evil of wealth redistribution by the government, how exactly are we going to pay for all the spending that the Republicans have done over the past couple of years? It has to come from somewhere! Shall we raise taxes only on registered Republicans? Now there’s an idea… At least Sen. Clinton is being consistent with her argument of paying for the common good - her party isn’t the cause of all this extra spending, but she’s willing to contribute to help fix it, and suffer the political damage that might come from her proposals.

  4. Thanks for your response Jeremy. The idea of taking something away from everyone for the common good is, by itself, not worisome. Should we keep a close eye on how much the government is taking and what is being done with our tax money? Of course. To say that ANY taxation with redistribution of wealth is radical socialism is going a bit far don’t you think? Without taking a little from everyone we couldn’t afford the military, social security, medicare, etc. But that should be obvious. Shouldn’t you learn a little more about what Hillary was proposing before getting so upset about it. Your post certainly didn’t provide much detail about what she was proposing.

  5. Jeremy, sorry for being so late in posting this, but I think you did not read the part about how the people she said that to paid up to $10,000 to attend that event. These are not people like you and me (i.e., middle class)…these are the privileged elite that Busheconomics preserves and protects. The Dems and moderate Repubs want to extend the tax cut provisions that benefit you and me. Too bad BushCo won’t allow that.

    You should read this:

BTW, how we doin in that War in Iraq? Want to go back and debate that some more?

    Regards,
    Sam

  6. Sam,

Nice to see your still around.

I responded to half your comment in the post entered after one.

As far as Iraq goes I guess I’d have to say that things are going about as I had expected. The terror war is being fought on their turf instead of ours and a new Iraqi government is in power that will be a partner to the United States rather than a bitter enemy. Granted it’ll take time and lots of my tax dollars before this can be a truly useful partnership. That sucks…but its better than the alternative. I think it is anyway.
