Corryn’s Dad still doesn’t know for sure who he is going to vote for. The next two presidential elections are the last ones he has to sit out so you all know who to vote for in 2012!

Here’s my future campaign manager practicing her flag waving.

Jimmy Carter: Insane and Stupid

Dan has a post with a portion of the transcript from a recent Hardball episode. Chris Mathews asked Carter if there are any parallels between the war fought by the terrorist insurgents in Iraq and the American patriots who fought against the British in the Revolutionary War. Here is Carter’s answer:

Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we’ve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.

Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonial’s really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.

Dan deals well with describing how insane this answer is. I want to point out how genuinely stupid this statement is line by line.

Old People and Technology

Her politics may be screwy but everyone who knows my mom knows that she’s smarter than Dick Cheney. For one thing she’s able to successfully navigate the world wide web.

During last night’s debate Dick Cheney referred watchers and listeners to the website www.factcheck.com. Mr. Cheney meant to refer people to www.factcheck.org. Whats the difference? factcheck.com refer’s people to a site run by George Soros, Democrat billionaire behind moveon.org, while factcheck.org has information about how the Kerry campaign has lied about Cheney’s ties to Halliburton and financial incentives he might have for providing them political favors.

A new blog, Four Sides, has an entertaining post about more confusion Cheney has exhibited when confronted with technology. Nice.

Here is why I’ve lost almost all interest in Star Wars. Its sad. I sure loved those movies but since Lucas’s more recent work they just don’t make me as happy as they used to. Oh well.

The extended version of Return Of The King comes out in December. Yeah!!!

Cool Quote

Here’s Stephen Green summarizing the motivation of many Bush voters with this excellent quote in his Halloween post today:

I’m a Vader fan. Not whiny, petulant little Anakin Skywalker, either. I mean Darth frickin’ Vader. If it takes a lesser evil to beat a greater evil (think Vader throwing the Emperor down that shaft in Jedi) then you’ll understand, not only why I love Darth, but why I’ll vote Republican next month.

This comment almost perfectly sums up my feelings about the upcoming election.

Saturday’s Conference Sessions

We just finished listening to the primary kids Singing Come Come Ye Saints in the conference center. Cool.

I have always liked conference. today has been no different. I sure like that Elder Eyring. that was one of the best conference talks I can remember. I’ll have to read that on the Sundays when I totally dread going to church. It will be a good reminder of what the whole point of it is.

I think I’m going to try live blogging a session of conference tomorrow. Not because I think anyone wants to see my thoughts in particular but because I get more out of the talks when I take notes.

Excellent Blog

I just added a new blog to my bloglines feed.

Favorite line regarding the recent presidential debates:

As for who won, I’d have to say we all lose. As I just realized when talking to a colleague, this isn’t about picking the lesser of two evils–it’s about distinguishing between two different but equally horrible kinds of evil.

Well said. You should also check out this post regarding means testing for social security. The writer’s idea about changing social security in name and structure so it is clearly a welfare program for seniors and the disabled is outstanding for the reasons explained in that post and more. Great webpage.

Utah State University: Shilling for CBS?

The debates turned out as I expected. Boring proof that neither candidate is worth my vote. Oh well.

There was a somewhat interesting development in the “Dan Rather’s Forged Memos Controversy” yesterday from my home state.

The blog Wizbang looked closely at an effort by a USU professor to prove the documents were typed on a typewriter…not forged on a word processor. The efforts by this professor appeared somewhat fraudulent and they were calling him on it. When the professor removed or edited the files on his webpage which were most suspect it became clear that his efforts were dishonest.

This whole story is pretty deep and I’m only interested because I’m a fan of the Aggies. I hope the school hasn’t stuck itself into the middle of this controversy on what is clearly the wrong side. That’s just stupid. CBS isn’t worth it.

UPDATE: USU is fighting back against allegations that they are a political hack job factory. From looking at the evidence I’d say they are fighting an uphill battle. I wonder what Dan thinks of all of this? He hasn’t posted anything yet but I would think that his inside connections at USU could shed some light on what is going on. Maybe?
