This is the building where I work…

Does anyone else think the tacky Buffulo RULES?!?!?!?!

That is one patriotic bison.
I read a post this morning (Melia is having a rough night…so I’m up at a weird hour again) on one of my favorite blogs, The Utah Amicus. In his post Rob Miller talks about the mostly justifiable outrage at the Bush Administration’s dealings with Halliburton then finishes with this line:
Would you let your stake president get away with these type of business practices?
Is it just me or is that kind of weird? I love Rob Miller’s blog and really feel strongly about the importance of changing Utah culture so Democrats aren’t considered “un-Mormon” but I don’t think arguments like this are a good way of achieving our goals.
Dragging our ideas of how priesthood leaders should behave into discourse about the corruption of our government by sleazy politicians is not particularly productive. It just seems a bit absurd. I guess it causes me the same discomfort I feel when people try to infuse politics into a sacrament meeting talk…it just doesn’t work.
That said, I seriously love Rob Miller’s site and enjoy reading his opinions on all things political in the State of Utah. I said earlier that Mr. Miller’s commentary played a large role in my chosing a new political party after moving to Utah and I stand by that. If you want to know what great potential exists for the Utah Democratic party keep an eye on his blog.

Today is my first day at a new job. I begin working today as a real estate appraiser for the Davis County, Ut, Assessor’s Office. I’m quite excited about this opportunity and very excited to learn about a completely different area of the appraisal business. Appraising for tax purposes is very different than appraising property as collateral for a mortgage loan. It is always exciting to have an opportunity to grow in your chosen profession and I’m especially pleased that I get to do this in what appears to be a very well run and professional county assessor’s office.
I do have to admit at being somewhat sad at the idea of going back to a regular 9-5 type job. I’ve been working for Advantage Home Appraisal for the past 2 years which means I have been a much bigger part of my family’s every day life than when I last had a regular away from home job. I’m really going to miss being with Lisa and the girls all day long. Lisa is one tough woman. She is now alone in dealing with the stresses that come with raising 2 kids during the day and running a small business. I sure love her and am grateful that she is willing to do all of this so I can begin a new career. She is very cool.
Last Friday I traded my Virginia Commonwealth driver license for a State of Utah license. It was a relatively silly process where I had to re-take the written driver test but was given the benefit of an open book. I also registered to voteā¦as a Democrat. (more…)
The idea of starting my blog up again inspired me to check out a few sites I’ve never been to that I thought might be interesting. I found one. Check out this post at The Baron of Deseret with analysis on the question of life the universe and everything from both the LDS and Athiest points of view.
As you can probably tell this site is undergoing some major renovations (including a new blog engine!). It should be up and running with semi-regular updates soon!
