Real Estate Assessment Notices Are Coming!

Property owners in Utah (well…Davis County at least) should be receiving real property assessment notices this weekend.  Take a look at yours to see if it is correct.

If your assessment is even a little bit off I recommend appealing.  I’ve seen mine already and plan on sending the appeal form in as soon as I get my notice!  As always, I’m happy to assist my fellow bloghive denizens in dealing with property tax appeals or answering questions about the process.  Leave a comment or email me!

  2. I’ve just received my 2008 Property Valuation (Davis County) and was shocked to see a >30% increase. I intend to appeal. Is there a better way to find comparables than going through a realtor? What other sources of comparable data ia available? What other info should I be gathering? Any advice on a plan of attack would be appreciated. Thanks

  4. I received my property taxes, and apparently, the Davis County Assessor’s Office thinks my house is worth double what I paid for it a year ago. Not kidding. Am appealing, but feel this is some sort of fraud, as EVERYONE I know in Davis County is mad about their assessment. How can I get the State of Utah to investigate the Assessor’s methods as it is not based on “Fair Market Value” as they claim?

  5. Christa,

Based on sales ratio studies done throughout the county on various residential age and quality groupings we aren’t that far off of market value in most cases this year.

I can understand your frustration if you’ve been over-assessed. If you need any assistance in completing your appeal email me and I’ll help you or you could call the Davis County assessor’s office and ask to talk to me. 451-3250

  6. My husband and I just recieved our property tax notice, (we live in China) we are starting our new home on a bare piece of property as we speak. Last years taxes were 647.61 and this years is 1867.85 this is highway robbery!! Nothing has changed except the value printed on the tax notice from 48320 to 161719.USD. No one in the area has sold any lots in the last 16 months…this lot is in West Bountiful. How can I appeal this and on what grounds!!! We are getting older and we don’t benefit from most of the taxes assessed School etc.. It seems a bit unfair for seniors…How can I appeal this. Sincerely Frustrated,
    Terry
