Mick Stockinger has an excellent post up today discussing a bit of the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and recent charges against my church of racism.
I rarely agree with Mr. Stockinger but his post is very well written and right on target. I encourage everyone to give it a read.

Yes, it would be nice to say there were no blemishes on the history of the LDS faith, or any other religion for that matter. But there are. And there will be mistakes made today demanding an answer in the tomorrow. We are not perfect in our understanding, but I also believe that is an irrational expectation. Why must leaders of any faith respond to these accusations of the past with anything more than “Hey, we’re a flawed people, just like any people, doing our best to interpret and understand what we believe to be the word of God.”
Very well said.
Here’s a cool story about a successful operation conducted by United States intelligence agencies during the cold war.
I still haven’t made it to the Spy Museum here in DC yet. Stories like this really make me want to go.

I forgot to include the link in the original post. It is there now. Read the story…it is and excellent example of ingenuity on the part of American intelligence services.
Here is a column by Thomas Sowell about FDR. Sowell has always been one of my favorite writers. I have many of his books and am always looking forward to the next thing he writes.
I’ve always disliked the fact that FDR is considered a hero by many historians for getting the U.S. out of the depression. Anyone who has studied history and has a rudimentary background in economics can see that most of the policies of the New Deal only exacerbated the problems that existed in the 30’s. Sowell’s column does a good job explaining some examples.
FDR was every bit as slimy as Clinton and G.W. Bush. World War II saved his reputation and ended the Great Depression. For some information on a great 20th century president who deserves the praise he gets check out this post.

Probably not much posting today…have to get ready for the road trip tomorrow! Check out the cool site above by clicking on the image.
I grew up in Northern Utah near an Air Force base that housed a squadron of F-16s. It was completely normal to hear the distinctive scream of those planes all day long (and sometimes even at night). I loved it. When Id hear the faint sound of the jets Id begin to scan the skies to try to catch a glimpse of them. I loved it when the sound built to a cool high-pitched thunder and a flight of the fighters flew over. The planes were SO cool. Sometimes Id park my car outside the base under the flight path of these fighters and enjoy the show as they would take off and land in the afternoon.
Two years and three days ago I was working at my desk in the corner of the cubicle farm that is my office at the Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, Virginia. I remember being in the middle of a project that had me deep in thought when Barry OConnell, one of my co-workers and friends, told me that a plane had flown into one of the World Trade Center buildings in New York and they had pictures of it on TV in the EX office.

Patrick Buchanan is wrong about many things, but he is an excellent writer. As much as I don’t like the guy I have to admit that it is really fun to read his columns. Here is one of my favorite on Joseph McCarthy.
